Jane Amidon

Jane Amidon is a Professor of Landscape Architecture and was the founding director of the Urban Landscape Program at Northeastern University. Jane teaches, lectures, and publishes on the contemporary urban landscape. Her articles focus on the ideas and design strategies of changing cities, building on previous work including Radical Landscapes: Reinventing Outdoor Space and monographs on leading practitioners. She was the founding editor for the Source Books in Landscape Architecture series. Her work is an extension of two areas of interest: modernism as a critical stance in mid-century landscape practice, and modernization as the remaking of the American landscape at increasingly monumental scales and interactivity. Current projects include a book examining influences that shaped the early work of American landscape modernist Dan Kiley, and writings on the entrepreneurial shift from reactive to proactive designed urban environments. Jane holds a Master’s of Landscape Architecture from Harvard University and a Bachelor’s of Art from Williams College with a focus on U.S. environmental and cultural history.
