Students who plan to enroll at the GSD may take advantage of private education loans depending on their eligibility.
Private loans are offered by lending institutions, as opposed to federal loans that are offered by the U.S. government. Both U.S. and international students may take advantage of private loans. Some restrictions will apply depending on credit worthiness, expected financial aid, academic progress, country of citizenship, etc.
U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens who plan to enroll at the GSD may be eligible to borrow federal student loans to help pay for their education.
Interested students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as part of their application process so that their eligibility can be determined. Make sure to use code E00212 for the GSD.
Although the federal student loans for graduate students are not based on need, there are eligibility requirements such as maintaining academic progress, credit worthiness, citizenship status, etc. that must be confirmed by the Financial Aid Office.
More information about federal student loans is provided by the US Department of Education.
There are various loan options available to help students pay for their education.
Domestic students (U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens) may be eligible for federal education loans provided by the United States Department of Education. Students in this group may also apply for private education loans.
International students can apply for private education loans but are not eligible for federal loans.
Please review the information for each type of loan to determine your eligibility. Before committing to the GSD, applicants should understand how much school will cost them and the impact the loans will have on their finances. The amount of debt you may incur to attend the GSD should be carefully considered; loans must be repaid.
This fund is not to supplement financial aid. Students who are not currently receiving financial aid are still eligible to apply.
Students on a leave of absence or who are currently enrolled at another Harvard school as part of a joint degree program are ineligible.
To apply, please complete the application form below and return it to the Office of Financial Aid by secure email or in person to Enrollment Services at 7 Sumner Road, Suite 102.
