Nerea Calvillo

Nerea Calvillo is an architect and researcher who studied at the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM). She was awarded the Fulbright grant to pursue studies at Columbia University (MsAAD), and she received her doctorate in 2014. She has worked at NO.MAD and Foreign Office Architects (FOA) before funding her own office C+ (2004), winning several national and international competitions. Her work and articles have been published in architecture magazines, academic journals and general media.

Her research projects on environmental sensing have been adopted by several international universities and new technologies centers. Her work has been recognized by the Poiesis Fellowhip of New York University and the Postgraduate fellowship Fundacion Caja Madrid to follow a Phd visiting studentship at Goldsmiths, University of London. These projects have been exhibited at the Museo de Arte Contempora?neo de Chile (Santiago de Chile), Laboral Centro de Arte y Creacion Industrial (Gijo?n) and the Canadian Centre of Architecture (Montreal), and have been published in several international publications.

Nerea has taught design studio at the Universidad Europea de Madrid (Madrid 2006-2011), the Universidad de Alicante (Alicante 2010-2014) and the Architectural Association (London 2014). Currently she is curator of the media facades european project Connecting Cities Network and is a researcher at the european funded project Citizen Sense, at Goldsmiths University of London. Her interests are at the intersection between architecture, science and technology and feminist studies, new materialisms and urban political ecologies.
