Dana McKinney White, assistant professor of urban design at the Harvard Graduate School of Design has unveiled Sunclipse, a new site-specific installation in Austin, Texas. McKinney White developed the project through her interdisciplinary practice, enFOLD Collective, which she co-founded with artist and urbanist Megan Echols. Presented as part of TEMPO on the Trail 2025–2026, the work joins that of eight other artists and collectives. Together, the projects transform a 10-mile riverfront corridor of trails and bike paths into an outdoor gallery.

Suspended within the ramp of Pfluger Pedestrian Circle and oriented due south, Sunclipse formally and metaphorically brings together Austin’s sky, land, and water. The installation features a luminous color gradient—purples, lilacs, oranges, and amber—that shifts with the viewer’s movement, weather conditions, and time of day.

Sunclipse is an expression of joy, tranquility, and collectivism,” says McKinney White. “The installation mimics Austin’s violet sunsets, signaling the end of the day while centralizing the city’s focus onto a singular moment. It is our hope that Sunclipse fosters stasis for pedestrians and cyclists moving along the trail. While we invite individuals to stop and experience the work, it is equally, if not more important that it effectuates a collective action of rest. Since its installation, we have witness people stand, sit, lay, and congregate below it, in which the art evokes collective meditation and engagement.”

Through its bold geometry and immersive color, Sunclipse creates a shared spatial experience along one of Austin’s most active public areas.

Founded in 2021, enFold Collective centers community voices through collaborative design processes, with a mission to uplift underrepresented and under-resourced communities.
