Cara Michell (MUP ’16) is one of the four artists shaping Boston’s public space as part of Boston Public Art Triennial’s Public Art Accelerator. Michell has been selected for cohort eight of this program, which supports early-to-mid-career Boston-based artists in creating temporary public art projects in neighborhoods across the city.

Serving as a kick-starter for artists stepping into the world of public art, Michell, alongside fellow cohort artists, will participate in skill-building and professional development workshops as they work towards a public art project proposal in 2026. Michell hopes to build on her practice using mapping, collaboration, and participatory design to reimagine public space as a platform for collective storytelling and belonging.
As the first Accelerator cohort following the inaugural Boston Public Art Triennial, Triennial 2025: The Exchange, which featured 21 public art sites across the city, cohort eight is a part of the Triennial’s continued commitment to expanding and invigorating Boston’s public art scene and efforts to uplift local artists. Since 2018, the program has prepared over 30 artists and provided more than $1 million in direct funding to local artists.
