Aditi Agarwal (MDes ’20) has been named on Building Design+Construction’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2025, which recognizes emerging leaders shaping the future of architecture, engineering, and construction across the U.S.
Agarwal is a cross-functional generalist in the world of sustainability. A building scientist, policy maker, sustainability consultant, educator, architect, and freelance interior designer with over 10 years of experience in low-carbon and health-focused solutions across the built environment, her research focuses on thermal comfort amid rising temperatures, particularly in affordable housing, and examines the public health impacts of climate-resilient design.
Agarwal is a Building Embodied Carbon Specialist at the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in San Francisco, where she provides technical and policy support to develop and implement a lifecycle assessment framework to measure and reduce the carbon intensity of building materials used in the construction of new buildings across California by 40% by the end of 2035.

The 40 Under 40 program is an annual recognition by Building Design+Construction that celebrates young professionals in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry who are considered rising stars. It highlights professional and technical accomplishments, leadership, community engagement, and contributions to the broader AEC field.
