Emre Erkal (MArch ’99), Principal of Erkal Architects, was a finalist at the 2025 European Steel Design Awards for his firm’s project Antalya Necropolis Museum in Antalya, Turkey. The European Steel Design Awards, given biennially since 1997 by the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork, celebrate the creative and outstanding use of steel in architecture and construction across Europe.
The Antalya Necropolis Museum preserves and presents local archaeological and ecological heritage as a multi-layered public space, which in turn vitalizes a critically central and busy junction in the city fabric. The museum, designed by Erkal, was selected as the best steel building in Turkey for 2024–2025 and received the Metin Sözen Grand Prize in Conservation by The Union of Historical Towns in Turkey. The museum was also a finalist at the 2024 World Architecture Festival in the Culture category.
