Aliza Sovani (MLA ’15) produced the documentary Bird Names, which premiered on the Canadian Broadcast Channel in March 2026 and is now available to stream on YouTube. The short film embarks on an eye-opening journey through culture, history, and ecology to explore the groundbreaking movement to rename North American birds.
Sovani and her sister, Aliya Jasmine, are the founders of Earth Tones, an environmentally focused media production company with studios in Los Angeles, California, and Ottawa, Canada. Through traditional and digital media content, Earth Tones hopes to transform the narrative for underrepresented environmental leaders and amplify the voices of those most impacted by climate change.
