Landscape Representation I
Landscape Representation I is the first course in a two-semester sequence introducing students to the foundational role of design representation in landscape architecture. More than a tool for visual communication, representation is framed as a generative and interpretive practice — one deeply rooted in the history, conventions, and evolving methodologies of discipline.
Through a series of structured explorations, students engage a broad spectrum of representational techniques spanning both analog and digital media. Tutorials develop essential skills and workflows, including hand drawing, architectural drafting, physical modeling, and digital fabrication. Emphasis is placed on iterative processes of abstraction and translation, fostering an understanding of site and intervention as constructs that are conceived, shaped, and ultimately designed through representation.
