Clay Starr, Renia Kagkou, and Shiori Sasaki are leading Esri’s global strategy on GIS in Architecture, Urban Design, and Planning. They are joining Bruce Boucek and GSD Faculty on Thursday, February 29th, 2024, in the Frances Loeb Library to discuss current and emerging technologies that impact architecture and the contemporary design fields. They will be sharing Esri’s strategy and goals for the industry including the technologies and trends that are reshaping the industry. They want to engage the GSD community in dialogue, critique, and insights on how spatial data, analytics, and modern digital workflows can positively impact our communities, our people, and our planet.
Clay Starr is Esri’s Architecture, Urban Planning & Design Lead. He is responsible for setting the overall strategy on how GIS enables designers and planners to radically improve their response to the challenges they face, deliver data-driven results, and generate new and better outcomes through the geographic approach. He’s been in the Architecture and Engineering firms for over 20 years leading digital transformation and holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design from Texas A&M University’s School of Architecture.
Renia Kagkou is a Senior Solution Engineer at Esri’s AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) team, where she develops workflows that leverage GIS to support Architecture, Urban Design, and Planning. She holds a Master of Architecture in Urban Design (MAUD) and a Master of Design Studies in Urbanism, Landscape, and Ecology (MDes ULE) from Harvard GSD, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute.
Shiori Sasaki, AIA is an Industry Consultant and Strategic Advisor at Esri, supporting AEC firms and infrastructure owners. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Cooper Union and a Master of Science in Construction Management from NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
Bruce Boucek started at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design in November of 2019 as the GIS, Data and Research Librarian. He is a professional urban geographer by training and temperament and provides expertise in spatial information science, data analysis, and cartographic production. He has a life-long passion for maps and the visual presentation of data.
Yun Fu is an architect and partner of Semester Studio, a design and research office for buildings, objects, and neighborhoods. He is also a lecturer in the Department of Urban Planning and Design at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
Enrique Mutis is an architect pursuing a Master of Architecture in Urban Design at Harvard GSD. With over a decade of experience in multi-housing, healthcare, and urban-scale projects across global geographies, Enrique’s current academic focus is to find unexpected spaces for equitable urban growth in major city centers.
