GSD Alumni 1516 Tour | Chicago

Free and open to the public

The GSD Alumni Council hosted an evening of design, reconnection, and conversation at 1516 , a recently completed adaptive reuse project in Chicago’s West Loop. Designed by GSD alum Annabell Ren (MAUD ’16), Principal at Converge Architecture, the space reflects a thoughtful approach to community-centered design.

Featured in Architectural Record, 1516 transforms a historic warehouse into a vibrant hub—home to a flower shop, a bookstore, Maxwell Trading restaurant, an innovation kitchen, and a working rooftop farm.

The tour, led by Annabell, began at the main entrance and guided guests through each space, concluding with a visit to the rooftop farm. The evening wrapped up in the Third Season Room, an apothecary and design store on the first floor, where we opened a couple of bottles of wine and enjoyed relaxed conversation and reconnection with fellow alumni.

Organized by Ethan Lassiter (MUP ’15) and Stacy Morton Callighan (MArch ’13).
