GSD Buildings and Spaces

Exterior of Gund Hall.

At the heart of the Graduate School of Design is a network of specialized spaces that facilitate research and production, provide technical support to students and faculty, and cater to the needs of the GSD’s diverse community. While Gund Hall sits at the center of academic and social life at the GSD, the School’s campus also includes a series of buildings that house administrative and faculty offices as well as spaces for student research.

  • Chauhaus

Tucked into a sunny corner a few steps down from the trays, Chauhaus is the place to grab a bite to eat and is used for informal meetings between faculty and students, student groups, and events.

  • Computer Labs

The GSD curriculum incorporates the specialized, leading-edge software essential to contemporary design fields. Workstations housed in a computer lab within Frances Loeb Library facilitate this learning.

  • Frances Loeb Library

The Frances Loeb Library provides the Graduate School of Design, the larger Harvard University community, and the public with resources and services for design research, teaching, and learning.

  • Fabrication Lab

Supporting the design culture at the GSD, the Fabrication Lab is structured as an open environment for material-based learning and research. The Lab features a wide range of equipment for investigating materials, prototyping and testing, and creating physical mock-ups.

  • GSD Campus

Anchored by Gund Hall, the GSD Campus comprises a network of buildings and outdoor areas configured to support the School’s academic mission while providing flexible space for community life.

EXHIBITION SITES

Druker Design Gallery

Located on the main floor of Gund Hall, the Druker Design Gallery comprises the School’s central public thoroughfare. It is the GSD’s largest and most prominent space for exhibitions.

Frances Loeb Library

Exhibitions in Loeb Library utilize a variety of walls and display spaces on the main floor. Given the security and climate control of this area, this space often features materials that are archival or fragile in nature.

Experiments Wall

Frequently used for posing questions or displaying focused research outcomes, the Experiments Wall comprises two walls facing each other in a corridor on the main floor.
