The Faculty Affairs and Academic Planning & Innovation teams have organized a workshop with Harvard University’s Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning on “Addressing Teaching Challenges and Engaging a Wide Range of Viewpoints in the Studio and Classroom.” Lunch will be provided.

In alignment with the University task force recommendations, the Office of Community, Impact, and Opportunity is offering a case-based and peer-oriented skill-building session for handling difficult topics in the classroom that will complement the Bok Center Workshop. Lunch will be provided.
Is Your Classroom (or Studio!) an Open Environment for Learning? An Applied Improv Workshop

Through a series of accessible, fun, easy to play theatre games, Matthew McMahan, Assistant Professor of Comedic Studies, Department of Performing Arts at Emerson College, aims to get participants out of their heads and into their bodies by encouraging play, spontaneity, and collaboration through a number of low-risk theatre exercises.Â
To create a positive and welcoming classroom dynamic that encourages students to express themselves freely, participants can expect to hone their non-verbal communication skills, listening skills, openness and reaction time, and adopting a “yes, and” frame of mind through games and group exercises utilized in Matthew’s curriculum.
