In addition to GSD scholarships and grants, other funding opportunities are available to GSD students.

  • Outside Scholarships: Any scholarship or grant award offered from a source other than Harvard University is referred to as an outside scholarship. An outside scholarship can be used during your time at the GSD whether or not you’re receiving GSD grant aid.
  • Awards & Prizes: The GSD offers both program-specific and school-wide awards and prizes.
    • Only students who are currently enrolled may apply for the awards and prizes listed.
    • Awards and prizes are not considered financial aid.
  • Travel Awards: Travel awards help students who are interested in furthering their research outside of campus.
    • Only students who are currently enrolled and continuing their program may apply for travel awards.
    • Travel awards are not resources that offset the cost of a students’ enrollment, so they are not considered financial aid.

Commencement Prizes

Each year at commencement, the GSD confers awards on graduating students who demonstrate exceptional scholarly achievement, leadership, and service.

Wheelwright Prize

Harvard GSD’s Wheelwright Prize is an international competition for early-career architects. Winners receive a $100,000 fellowship to foster intensive, innovative architectural research that is informed by cross-cultural engagement and can make a significant impact on architectural discourse.

Loeb Fellowship

The Loeb Fellowship offers a transformative year of study and engagement at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) and a powerful worldwide network of over 450 colleagues.

Endowed Fellowship & Financial Aid

There are currently over 90 fellowships and financial aid funds that have been gifted by our alumni community to help our students fund their academic studies. These endowed gifts are awarded by the School and do not require an additional application.
