Maia Peck (MArch ’17) and Gregory Serweta of the multidisciplinary practice Serweta Peck announced the opening of the Medina Triennial Hub, a welcome center for the first contemporary art triennial in Medina, New York. Created in collaboration with the University at Buffalo, Medina Triennial, and New York Power Authority, the cultural center serves as a flexible space for community gatherings, artist workshops, talks, and screenings, and provides an anchor point for visitors, staff, and artists-in-residence.
The project, titled Objects of Affection, invites and encourages everyday citizens to take material steps to help maintain the spaces and things they visit, inhabit, and love. Bespoke flexible furniture made from sustainable and recycled materials, including leftover 2x4s and plywood, cardboard plotter tubes, woodchips, cork, and scrap lumber from the Erie Canal, addresses the Triennial’s theme of “All That Sustains Us.” A bright teal floor unifies the space, creating a 15-inch flood line that mimics the rise and fall of the nearby Erie Canal.
The book Objects of Affection: The Making of the Medina Triennial Hub was published in June 2026 to coincide with the Hub’s opening.
