Born on October 27, 1942, to Hellen and Lenert Henry, Dick was born and raised in Massachusetts. He received a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Princeton University in 1964, before returning to Massachusetts for his postgraduate studies, earning his master’s in architecture from the GSD. It was during his time at Princeton that Dick met his wife, Anne Elisabeth Marshall, whom he married in June 1966.

After completing his studies, Dick and Anne served two years in the Peace Corps in Nabeul, Tunisia, after which they settled in Philadelphia, where Dick began his architectural career at Kneedler Mirick Zantzinger, becoming a Partner in 1976. In 1981, Dick joined the architectural firm CUH2A in Princeton, New Jersey, where he ultimately became President and CEO, as the firm grew from 53 people in one office to 425 in five locations, including an office in London.

Retiring to the South Carolina Low Country, Dick’s primary interest was the constant pursuit of an even better photograph of an egret in breeding plumage. He was an active member of the Callawassie Island Paddlers Club and a founding member of the Callawassie Island Photography Club.

Dick served the various communities in which he lived, from New Jersey to Pennsylvania to South Carolina, acting as a member of the Tredyffrin Township Planning Commission and Historic Architectural Review Board, Chairman of the Lawrence Township Board of Historic Architectural Review, member of the Board of the Lawrenceville Main Street Project, and Chairman of the Callawassie Island Architectural Review Committee.

A devoted father and friend, Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Anne, daughter Megan Henry and her daughter Elisabeth, daughter Marion Henry, her husband Andrew Colyer, and their children Jack, Maggie, and Katherine, son John Henry, his brother John Allen Henry and his wife Kate Carpenter Henry, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
