Landscape Representation I

Landscape Representation I is the first course in a two-semester sequence that introduces students to the foundational role of representation in the discipline of landscape architecture. Far more than a tool for communication, representation is presented here as a generative and interpretive act — one deeply embedded in the history, conventions, and evolving practices of landscape design. Through a series of explorations, students will engage a broad spectrum of representational techniques that span both analog and digital methods. Tutorials will introduce essential skills and workflows, including hand drawing, physical modeling, and digital fabrication. Emphasis will be placed on the iterative process of abstraction and translation — developing an understanding of site and intervention as constructs that are imagined, shaped, and ultimately designed through their representations.
