Jana Skirnewskaja

Lecturer in Engineering Design

Jana Skirnewskaja, Ph.D. researches intelligent, human-centered mobility systems through the integration of engineering, design, and artificial intelligence. She was an AAUW Postdoctoral Fellow in MIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, where she researched the optimization of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, and an Instructor at MIT, teaching multivariable calculus and physics.

Her research combines intelligent transportation systems, accessible design, photonics, and automotive systems to develop safer, more adaptive, and user-centered mobility solutions. Drawing on industry experience at Jaguar Land Rover, she develops technologies that bridge technical innovation, design, and real-world implementation.

Jana is committed to engineering education and public engagement. She advises graduate design projects and has organized STEM outreach activities at venues including the Museum of Science, Boston, and the Cambridge Festival. She has also contributed to programs promoting neurodiversity in engineering and previously served as an IEEE Women in Engineering Ambassador, supporting broader participation in STEM. She earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, where she developed high-definition holographic head-up displays for automotive applications.
