Maria Claudia Clemente (Rome, 1967) is an architect and instructor. He graduated in 1992 from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and received a PhD in Architectural Design and Technology in 2000. In 2002, he founded Labics, an architecture and urban design firm together with Francesco Isidori and Marco Sardella.
In 2018, he published “Structures” (Park Books), a manifesto book summarizing Labics’ theoretical and design work; in 2023, he published “The Architecture of Public Space” (Park Books), which outlines a strategy for the design of public spaces based on research on Italian historic centers. She is the author of numerous texts on the role of public space in the contemporary city.
Among the main projects carried out: the pedestrian bridge at Tajan’s Markets in Rome (2003), MAST Foundation in Bologna (2013), the multipurpose complex Città del Sole in Rome (2016), Piazza Fontana in Rozzano (2011), the Jacaranda nursery school in Milan (2018), the restoration of Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara (2023), the Cu.Bo University building, Campus Bio-Medico in Rome (2023), the Cascina Merlata – Uptown residential complex in Milan (2026) and the renovation of the Biennale Central Pavilion in Venice (2026). Among the main projects in progress is worth mentioning: the archaeological walk along Via dei Fori Imperiali in Rome, the restoration of the Crypta Balbi in Rome and the Città del Sole public library in Rome. Maria Claudia Clemente has been a visiting professor at Sapienza University of Rome and Cornell University (Rome and Ithaca). He is regularly invited to give lectures on his own projects and research.
