Nadir Abdessemed is a consultant for climate responsive design with the German Engineering firm Transsolar. He is now based in New York and has collaborated with an array of internationally successful architects to conceptualize urban, landscape and architectural projects in Europe, the US and Asia. Nadir is also involved in many small and humble projects with emerging studios and has advised development agencies on educational projects in the Middle East and Africa for master planning of colleges and school design.
His work revolves around understanding the fundamental thermodynamics within the built environment. He is fascinated by the interaction of materials, buildings and landscapes with the sun, air and water and was instrumental in designing the Cloudscapes installation at the Architectural Biennale 2010 in Venice together with Tetsuo Kondo from Tokyo. Nadir is a Mechanical Engineer and holds a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College London, where he developed novel computational methods to understand the dynamics of airflows past complex geometries.
