As an architect, entrepreneur, and Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Ricardo Álvarez-Díaz leads one of the nation’s largest minority-owned design firms and helped establish the first Puerto Rican architecture practice to achieve B Corp certification. His work spans resilient design, affordable housing, community redevelopment, and sustainability, advancing design excellence while addressing social and environmental challenges. Through leadership roles with the Urban Land Institute (ULI), as an adjunct professor at the University of Notre Dame, and in other organizations, he advocates for equity, mentorship, and inclusive community building. He brings a global perspective, deep regional engagement, and a commitment to amplifying diverse voices within the GSD community.

Ricardo looks forward to making a meaningful impact through alumni outreach, the Alumni Council Governance Committee, and partnerships across the School. He is committed to strengthening global alumni engagement, advancing the GSD’s mission, mentoring students, fostering connections across generations, and expanding engagement opportunities in Puerto Rico, Latin America, and other underrepresented regions, helping to build a more inclusive, connected, and influential GSD alumni community.
