Gullivar Shepard is a Principal and a lead designer at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates. Gullivar has been with MVVA since 1999, and helped found the firm’s Brooklyn office in 2000. Gullivar has helped lead many of the firm’s urban-scale landscape projects, including Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn, NY, the Lower Don Lands and Harbourfront Centre in Toronto. He is currently overseeing MVVA’s work on the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial—the site of Sarineen’s Gateway Arch–in St. Louis, and the Waller Creek corridor in downtown Austin, TX.
Gullivar has a background in art and anthropology, and was educated as an architect, but he has spent the majority of his professional life in the practice of landscape architecture. Gullivar’s undergraduate work was done at Washington University, in St. Louis, and he earned his M.Arch at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
