John Tuomey studied architecture at University College Dublin where he is now inaugural Professor of Architectural Design. He has lectured at many schools in Europe and the US and previously taught an option studio at the GSD in 1988, the same year he established his Dublin based partnership with Sheila O’Donnell. O’Donnell + Tuomey have won the RIAI Gold Medal and the AAI Downes Medal. They have been shortlisted four times for the RIBA Stirling Prize and exhibited at the Venice Biennale. Current work includes the New Students Centre at the London School of Economics and the Central European University Budapest. He was managing director of Group 91, a collaboration of architects responsible for the urban regeneration framework plan for Dublin’s Temple Bar cultural quarter. He is author of Architecture Craft and Culture, a refection on the principles of design in the work of O’Donnell + Tuomey. He is a member of Aosdana, the affiliation of artists in Ireland.
