Paul Andersen
Design Critic in Architecture

Paul Andersen is the director of Independent Architecture, a Denver-based office with projects that speculate on the roles that form, repetition, and pop culture play in architecture. Current projects include a round house, a Mexican restaurant, three offices inside an office, 28 brick townhomes, and a traveling exhibition on wood framing. Independent’s work has won numerous design competitions and been recognized with a Progressive Architecture (P/A) Award, an American Architecture Prize, and several AIA Awards.
Paul teaches at the GSD and the University of Illinois Chicago. He has curated and exhibited work at the Venice Biennale, The Great Poor Farm, MoMA, the Chicago Architecture Biennial, and the MCA Denver. He was appointed a Fulbright Specialist in Architecture and writes and edits essays and books on architecture, including American Framing: The Same Something for Everyone (Park Books, 2023).
