Kate Kennen, principal of Offshoots, Inc., is a registered Landscape Architect based in Boston. Having spent her childhood at her family’s garden center in central Massachusetts, Kate is well versed in the plants of the Northeast. She earned her undergraduate degree from Cornell University and graduate MLA2 degree from the GSD at Harvard. Kate widely teaches courses in phytoremediation and productive planting design and has been lecturing at the GSD on the topic since 2010.
Kate has been researching phytotechnology applications since 2005 and has completed many built works utilizing plants to clean up contaminated landscapes. She has received awards for her design work from the Colorado Society of Landscape Architects, ASLA, BSLA, Massachusetts Governor’s Smart Growth Committee, Massachusetts APA, and the National US.EPA. Her forthcoming book, ‘Phyto for Landscape Design’, co-authored by Niall Kirkwood will be published in Fall 2014 by Routledge.
