Master in Real Estate

The Master in Real Estate degree provides students with foundational knowledge and technical skills required for developing, financing, owning, and managing well-designed real estate that can advance beneficial spatial, social, and environmental outcomes.

For nine months from late August to the end of May, students take classes on-campus, including a development project course that simulates the multidisciplinary and collaborative transactional environment successful real estate projects require. The program concludes with a two-month summer term Practicum that places students in a private for-profit, private not-for-profit, or public real estate organization, followed by a return to campus for students to reflect on their experience through a paper as well as presentations and discussions.

Students possessing superior knowledge of material covered in most required courses may take a waiver examination and, if successful, substitute an elective. MRE students take one or two elective courses in the fall and spring terms at the GSD or through cross-registering for select courses offered by other Harvard schools, including the Business School, the Law School, the Kennedy School, and the College, as well as at MIT.
